Unit and collective packaging – what is it? Examples

On the basis of logistics, it is very common to meet the division of packaging into unit, collective and transport. Our company specializes in the first type – we produce packaging that has direct contact with the product, in our case from the food industry. We are talking here, for example, about paper bags or papers in sheets or rolls. Products packed in this way are placed in collective packages for the duration of storage and transport. Examples of such accessories will be cardboard boxes, pallets or boxes.

Unit packaging – what is it?

The layer that has direct contact with the product is a unit packaging – what is it in practice? Such an accessory is, on the one hand, to protect the product, on the other hand, to facilitate its identification and provide the consumer with the information necessary. For this reason, their quality is extremely important for the efficiency of the supply chain, including storage and transport activities. It is also a packaging in which the product will go to the end customer and can therefore perform a marketing function. When it comes to unit packaging, examples can be plastic cups, paper bags, disposable dishes or a box with medicine.

What is a collective packaging?

The issue of what a collective packaging is is easiest to explain using the example of a cardboard box, in which we can find many products in unit packaging, which facilitates their storage and transport. So these are packages of a specific form and large capacity. In the case of bulk packaging, examples can be pallets, boxes, as well as more specialized products, such as bottle carriers.

This type of packaging has several important functions. First of all, it protects products from damage and adverse external factors, and also facilitates distribution and inventory. What’s more, labels placed on their surface, containing information about the type and quantity of content, improve the process of shipping and accepting goods to the warehouse.

Unit and collective packaging – what is worth knowing?

Although both types of packaging contribute to improving and improving the quality of the supply chain, they have somewhat different functions, as we have explained above. Both protect products and facilitate their identification, but individual packaging will be more important in the marketing context, and collective – in the logistics context.

In addition to the division of packaging discussed earlier, we can also distinguish by the type of material, shape and whether they are reversible. The division into disposable and reusable packaging is also important. The above classifications greatly facilitate the distinction of factors that should be taken into account when selecting packaging for a given product.

Single and collective packaging – how to choose the right one?

Most often, a given product will require both unit packaging, i.e. commercial, and collective packaging. When choosing them, you should pay attention to its properties, for example, resistance to adverse factors, as well as how it will be packed – automatic or manual. It is worth betting on packaging that will make this process easier. What is more, when selecting it, we must not forget about legal issues, for example related to waste management, as well as environmental – currently the last of these issues is also important for image reasons. It is also important to take into account how the products will be stored and transported.

Both individual and collective packaging should take up as little space as possible, as well as have an optimal weight that will make it easier to move the goods. It is worth selecting them in such a way as to limit the movement of the goods placed inside them.

Unit packaging – examples from our production

Many companies from the Polish catering industry use our unit packaging, which is always adapted to individual needs. We offer a wide selection, great quality, and at the same time favorable prices. We offer block, folded, flat and coated paper bags, as well as various types of paper packaging and papers in rolls or sheets.

In the case of individual packaging, examples of our products are really numerous, so it is worth knowing the material of their manufacture, which will make it easier to select them for the appropriate items. For example, white or brown paper will work well for disposable packaging of loose products and pastries, while greaseproof paper will be an excellent choice for packaging fast food dishes. Importantly, you can often place any print on the packaging of our production, as well as enrich them with a “window” that will make it easier to identify the product. It is a great solution for bakeries, confectioneries, shops and restaurants and other catering outlets. We create packaging that perfectly fulfills all the required functions – including protective and marketing.
